March 12, 2010

You have to go to her website to watch the full version. trust me, you will not be disappointed. Gaga manages to merge her usual amazingly odd styles with a Kill Bill theme and the beautiful Beyonce. Enjoy!

o and I like how she at first didn’t want to be identified as a specific gender but now in this video she made it point to flash her crotch, make a statement about not having a cock, and then have as many close-up pelvic thrusts as humanly possible……

She donates that money to charities. I still think she is awesome.

as cool as charity donations are partaking in product brainwashing is something that concerns me.

could you point me in the direction of where it says she is donating the blatant advertisement money to charity? I am having trouble finding this information. It appears she donates a lot of her money but nothing that states what she did with the 7+ name brands she obnoxiously placed in this video

i dunno, i like the video. the advertising is lame, but i think it’s meant to be that way. she’s a big fan of warhol. nobody had a problem with his image use in campbell soup cans. the difference is that warhol didn’t get paid by campbell’s for his work.

i should say though, i don’t think the plugs betray gaga’s vision. she’s all about that which is mass consumed. after all it’s what got her from being a singer-songwriter to a pop-star. what better way to accentuate mass consumption than by plaguing your video with images which already permeate our lives.

one other small note, no matter how you feel about the video, it does show the strange situation of the music industry today. record companies can’t afford to pay for a video as elaborate as the one she wanted and artists in general are making less and less money off of their albums for due to rampant piracy. no matter how big lady gaga is, she cannot make money in the same way musicians of the past would. i think something must be said for that.

I agree with you Dave she is all about being the outrageous- and I do think that the plugs were directly placed to illuminate the ridiculousness of the control that products have on our society. And yes she does do things to mirror Warhol- and I like the reference to the soup cans. Also to piggyback on what you said about her wanting to be the mass media and a pop star is true. That is what I like about her- she takes the mass media and mocks it by taking it to this level where it is just ridiculous. I just love her and I think she is a genius.
